moorideas.com is the trading arm of
CHICKS. Our aim is to
provide a sustainable funding stream which will help CHICKS to
provide its much needed respite breaks.
A registered children’s charity,
CHICKS was founded in 1992, to offer free, 6-day
residential respite breaks for disadvantaged
children from across the UK, who would not
otherwise have a holiday that year. We provide a
unique experience of care, understanding and
support with outdoor activities, games, team
building and crafts. We are a small, caring
organisation with a strong emphasis on family
values. CHICKS helps children from a variety of
different backgrounds, just a few examples are
children growing up in poverty, children of
prisoners, and children who have been abused,
either physically, emotionally or sexually.
CHICKS also provides breaks for young carers.
CHICKS aims to provide as many disadvantaged
children as possible with the life enhancing
experience of a free respite break away in the
countryside at one of our centres in Devon or
Cornwall.

We have two stunning centres in the West
Country; ‘Coastal’ Retreat in Par, Cornwall and
‘Moorland’ Retreat in Brentor, Devon. Both
centres operate to the same high standards and
conditions. Each centre can take a maximum of 8
boys and 8 girls.
CHICKS has grown from
helping just 25 children in its first year
(under canvas) to providing breaks for 600 plus
children a year in 2007 at it’s two Retreats.
Our aim is to continue providing more deprived
children with a respite break each year until we
have reached a 1000 breaks a year by 2010.
CHICKS receives no government
funding and relies solely on donations from
individuals, grant making trusts
and companies to provide for the increasing
number of disadvantaged children who need places
on a CHICKS respite break. There are many ways
in which you can help us provide for children in
desperate need of positive input, support and
most importantly happy memories.
